Over the last few weeks our artist team has been working with Kilkenny County Council who commissioned Street Art Ink to design and deliver a 160 meter long mural on the new greenway coming to Ferrybank and the North Quays in Waterford. The team were delighted to be back down last weekend in Ferrybank to finish brightening up the walls of this lovely stretch thanks to Mark, his team, and Creative Ireland. 

The design brings together local heritage, community and bio-diversity in one long landscape, connected by a pathway that weaves throughout. Presentations from public consultations with local community groups provided our artists with a great starting point to make a design that represented and spoke to its local community. Design elements such as two men rowing, coming from Ferrybank’s Tidy Town’s logo, a knitted Slieverue sign and the new Waterford bridge have all been inspired by the contributions from local community groups.   

Using an airless sprayer, the team managed to get the base coat down on all 160 meters of this wall in only a day and a half! After this they got stuck in to refining the background with paint brushes and bringing in the design elements with spray paint. We were delighted to see that, in only a few days, the mural had already made it onto the Ferrybank community group Facebook page, with great feedback given about how much it is brightening up the area. Now that this artwork has been completed, we can’t wait to see what the visitors think when the new greenway officially opens in September!
