Street Art Ink’s newly developed workshop programme has been a resounding success!
The Street Art Ink team have been busy from April until now (July), running our traditional spray and stencil skills workshops. To date we have hit the counties of Waterford, Limerick, Laois and Dublin working with primary and secondary schools, festivals, businesses and community groups.
Over the last few months, the Street Art Ink team have developed our new workshop model following feedback we have received from the schools groups we have worked with. These newly developed workshop model for schools are looking to gain an in depth understanding of the mural process. These workshops take participants through every phase of the mural creation process, from the very beginning of mural design, incorporating demonstrations and guided sessions, using industry standard software, all the way to taking part in painting the finished piece! Our artists met with senior cycle classes in 4 of the participating primary schools to take them through initial idea generation, using the software and conveying their final ideas through individual designs. The children’s ideas from these sessions then informed the overall designs our artists drew up for the new school murals, ensuring the children felt a sense of pride and ownership over their contribution to the final design elements. These designs were then painted on an exterior wall of the Limerick school, with all the children in the school getting the chance to take part in the painting, under the guidance of our experienced artists. The children were taught the basics of spray painting using non-toxic, water-based paints, with respect for the skill and craft of street art being at the forefront. The remaining 3 schools who form the Creative Clusters schools group will paint their murals on their school walls this coming September/October time. Giving every child the space to share their unique ideas has been a true highlight of these recent projects. Allowing for these truly collaborative and participatory murals in schools, we feel that children gain a truly enriching and educational experience of the benefits of community street art projects.
Street Art Ink workshops return in September and we looking forward to coming back with the school groups to finish their mural arts programmes.
